Whenever my grandparents have used language around me that evokes speech of long ago, they find it odd that I wouldn’t know what they mean – as if the terms are still used in today’s culture. Now, at nearly 45 years of age, I am finding it a challenge at times to relate to today’s new graduates entering the workforce. From what I hear, many of you are experiencing the same thing, or you’re that young accountant who is frustrated with the curmudgeonly partners at your firm!
Here’s a great tool for trying to wrap your head around the foundations and perceptions of today’s college-aged individuals. For instance, many 20-year-olds have never felt the need to have a wristwatch. Who knew? The Beloit College Mindset List for the Class of 2014 is worth a look. Good luck!
